Frequently Asked Questions

How do I choose the appropriate class for my level of ability?

We understand that it is sometimes difficult to decide which class would be the best fit for any dancer who is new to our studio. In an attempt to simplify matters and make the most of each students' learning, we break down our classes by both basic age guidelines and levels of skill (when appropriate). For instance, Ballet classes are intended for students ages eight and older; however, we offer 7 levels of Ballet classes (Ballet 1, Ballet 2, etc.). Students with the least previous ballet training should register for lower-level classes; students with more training should register for higher-level classes (within age requirements). If you are uncertain in which level a new student should be placed, we would be happy to make suggestions and/or schedule a placement "audition" with one of our instructors.

Are there any penalties or late fees assessed if I don't pay my tuition by a certain time?

Effective 01/01/05, we have reinstated the following policy regarding tuition payments for the West Dundee Studios Classes:

"Tuition is to be paid in full before the first class of the semester. If a monthly payment plan is agreed upon, a $5.00 late fee will be applied on the 15th of each month if payment is not received by that time. In addition, if a student is to be withdrawn from a class, written notice should be given to the studio; if written notice is not received, tuition charges will continue to accrue."

Please note that tuition payments can be made online with an additional 3% surcharge. Click here to pay online.

Please note that this policy does not apply to classes held at the Centre of Elgin; tuition payments for classes at the Centre of Elgin must be paid in full at the time of registration.

What happens if the class I want is already full when my registration and payment is received?

All students are registered into classes in the order that registration is received; therefore, some classes may completely fill prior to the start of the semester. In the case that a class is full when your registration request is received, we will contact you immediately. If another comparable class is not available, we will gladly place you on a waiting list for your first choice class and contact you again if and when an opening is made available.

What happens if the class I want is canceled due to low enrollment?

We try our best to avoid cancelling scheduled classes; however, in the case that the enrollment for any class does not meet our minimum requirement (typically five students, although this number does vary slightly by class), it becomes evident that our only option is to cancel a class. If possible, we will always suggest comparable classes in which we can enroll a student; when that is not possible, we will be happy to issue a refund for tuition paid.

What happens if I try a class and decide that I don't like it?

Although we fully believe in the capability and capacities of all of our instructors and classes, it's true that sometimes students try a class and are just not comfortable in continuing further. We fully understand that everyone won't like every type or style of dance, but we're confident that we can find something that each student WILL like, if given the opportunity.

If a student tries a class and decides he or she doesn't like it, please contact the studio as soon as possible. We will first try to find a better fit for that student in another class; if all else fails, we will gladly issue a class credit onto your account or refund of remaining tuition, if necessary.
