Dance Teams

Dixon Dance Academy offers nine competition-level classes that focus on the joys and the compromises of being a part of a team. Although we do perform at a limited number of competitions each year, we prefer not to become a "competition school." We believe that dance is an art form, and art should be appreciated without being judged. However, we also believe that technique is an important part of the learning process at DDA, so we choose to participate in competitions in order to receive valuable professional critiques. We take these professional suggestions seriously to help both the dancers and choreographers advance their skills. In addition, we believe that competition can be fun, educational, and - most of all - inspiring for all involved.

Students must audition to be placed on a team. See Auditions Page for more details.

For current Competition Schedule please see our Competitions Page.

Competitive team dancers will be required to purchase the proper shoes and dancewear to match their routine and team mates. Please click here to view the Team Requirements.

Don't forget that dance shoes may be purchased though our studio. Please click here to view the Revolution Dancewear and Shoe Order Form or visit our Links Page for more information.

We offer the following competition teams:

  • Tiny Team (ages 7 - 9)
  • Junior Jazz Team* (ages 9 - 12)
  • Junior Tap Team (ages 9 - 12)
  • Intermediate Jazz Team* (ages 12 - 15)
  • Hip Hop Team (ages 12 - 18)
  • Intermediate Tap Team (ages 12 - 15)
  • Senior Jazz Team* (ages 14 - 18)
  • Senior Tap Team (ages 14 - 18)
  • IMPACT Dance Company* (ages 14 - 18)

* Competitive jazz dancers must attend at least one ballet class per week in addition to their scheduled jazz class. Two technique classes are highly suggested.

Competitions charge entry fees ranging anywhere from $20-$50 per dancer, per routine. In addition, all competition team dancers are required to purchase higher-quality costumes for each competition routine. These costumes are purchased in November to ensure for timely arrival prior to competition, and usually cost between $60-$100 per costume.
